Denton Texas Public School
A School Psychologist supports students' academic, social, and emotional development by performing psychological assessments, providing counseling and interventions, and collaborating with students, families, teachers, and administrators. Key responsibilities include identifying learning obstacles, designing mental health and intervention programs, creating positive learning environments, conducting crisis response, and ensuring comprehensive support through the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Key Responsibilities & Duties
Assessment & Diagnosis:
Conduct psychological evaluations and assessments using standardized tests to identify cognitive, academic, emotional, and behavioral issues.
Intervention & Prevention:
Design and implement school-wide prevention programs and evidence-based interventions to address and support students' needs.
Counseling & Support:
Provide individual, small-group, and family counseling services to promote mental health and well-being.
Collaboration:
Work closely with parents, teachers, administrators, and community service providers to create coordinated support plans and ensure student success.
IEP & 504 Plans:
Participate in IEP and 504 plan development, providing assessment results and recommendations for students with special needs.
Crisis Response:
Respond to and manage school crises by providing leadership and direct services.
Data Analysis:
Collect and analyze data to monitor student outcomes, inform school-wide improvements, and ensure accountability.
Key Collaborators
Students:
Provide direct counseling and support services tailored to their needs.
Parents:
Guide parents, share assessment findings, and assist in creating home-school strategies.
Teachers:
Collaborate to implement intervention strategies, develop individualized plans, and foster positive learning environments.
Administrators:
Work with school leaders to collect data, implement school-wide initiatives, and promote safety and positive school climates.
Community Providers:
Coordinate services for students and families with outside agencies and professionals.
